Let it be known—once again—The Streator Standard beats the big boys to the punch. While you wait for the official headline in the Times sometime around the Fourth of July, we’re already fanning ourselves with the facts: Diversified Sheet Metal is your June Business of the Month.

And let’s be honest, the timing couldn't be more poetic. As summer turns Streator into a midwestern sauna, Diversified is here reminding us that good HVAC isn’t just a luxury—it's a survival tactic.

Founded back in 1989 by Dave Harcharik Sr. and Ralph Eggers, the company got its start on Sundown Street in the Riverside neighborhood—right next to the hum of cicadas and the occasional floodplain concern. Today, it’s still in the family, still local, and still cool as ever at 402 N. Illinois Street.

Their team, proud members of Sheet Metal Workers Local 1 (which is just about the most hard-hat-awesome union name we’ve heard this week), specializes in:

Residential and commercial HVAC

Industrial ductwork

Architectural sheet metal

Metal and flash roofing

And yes, keeping Streator cooler than a drive-thru prayer on a Saturday afternoon

What’s even cooler? They do it without fanfare, without fluff, and certainly without having to wait for city grants or handouts.

This is what locally grown industry looks like—sweat, skill, and some serious sheet metal.

📍 Or just swing by—no appointment necessary, just a willingness to talk ductwork.

Congratulations to Dave Sr., Tony, Dave Jr., Dylan, and the entire team. And kudos to Carrie Pedelty, Derek Barichello, and the Chamber for recognizing the folks who’ve been putting in the work since ’89—before it was cool to be cool.

Stay tuned for the Times to catch up with this story in, oh, two to three business weeks. We’ll be over here—reporting like it’s our job.

More to come…
