STREATOR — Streator residents will have a chance to meet Interim Police Chief Robert Wood during the city’s first “Chat with the Chief” event Monday morning.

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, July 6, at The Silver Fox, 122 N. Park St. It is being promoted as an open opportunity for residents to speak directly with Wood, ask questions and hear from the department in a less formal setting.

Wood is serving as interim chief following the retirement of former Police Chief John Franklin, who had led the department since 2022\. Franklin announced his retirement in May, with Wood stepping into the interim role while city officials continue the process of selecting a permanent chief.

The public meeting comes during a period of transition for the police department and city government. Wood has previously said he wants to continue the work done under Franklin while also increasing the department’s transparency with the public, including through more communication on social media.

The Streator Police Department has recently expanded its public-facing communication, including posting more regular updates about calls for service and department activity. The department’s official mission statement emphasizes professional law enforcement, community partnership and accountability.

Monday’s event gives residents a chance to speak with Wood outside of a City Council meeting or formal public hearing. It also gives the department a chance to continue building public familiarity with its interim chief as Streator waits for a long-term decision on the position.

The event is open to the public.
