STREATOR — Good news for those hoping to drench their children in municipal joy: the Streator City Park Splash Pad is scheduled to open Monday, June 2—“as long as everything works,” according to city officials, engineers, weather patterns, and perhaps divine intervention.

New parts were installed May 30, the lines were flushed, and now the system just needs “a few days to stabilize,” according to the city—language typically reserved for rocket launches and nervous houseplants.

There are no buckets, no breaker to flip, and no solenoid to fetch. If something breaks, we’ll all just stand there looking at it until someone makes a Facebook post.

Still, it’s a splash pad. In a park. In Streator. And that alone is worth celebrating—assuming it turns on.
