STREATOR — Streator Township High School received the second-lowest of five ratings on the 2026 Illinois Report Card, which the Illinois State Board of Education released Oct. 30.

The school was rated "Developing." Of seven public high schools in the area, Streator High was the only one to receive that rating.

The report card covers the 2025-26 school year, when Streator High had 722 students. It includes graduation rates, test scores, attendance and other measures for every public school in Illinois.

## What the ratings mean

This is the first year of a new state rating system. From highest to lowest, the ratings are Exemplary, Approaching Exemplary, Commendable, Developing and Comprehensive.

The state describes Developing schools as showing "patterns of performance showing greater need for improvement."

Schools are now measured against fixed standards instead of being ranked against one another, so this year's ratings cannot be compared directly with past years.

For high schools, a rating rests mainly on three things, how many students meet state standards on tests, how much students' scores improve and how many students graduate.

Attendance, the progress of students learning English and a school climate survey can raise a rating but cannot lower it.

Statewide, 452 of 3,828 schools, or 11.8%, were rated Developing.

## Graduation

At Streator High, 80.9% of students graduated within four years, down from 83.8% the year before.

The statewide rate was 89.8%, up from 89%.

The school's dropout rate was 4.2%, compared with 2.3% statewide.

| Grade | Streator High reading | Illinois reading | Streator High math | Illinois math |
| ----- | --------------------- | ---------------- | ------------------ | ------------- |
| 9 | 52.9% | 61% | 29.5% | 41.7% |
| 10 | 33.1% | 53.3% | 18% | 36.1% |

Among juniors, 34.9% met the reading standard, compared with 35.4% a year earlier. In math, 20.5% met the standard, up from 17.5%.

Ninth grade showed the largest gains, rising from 49.7% to 52.9% in reading and from 20.5% to 29.5% in math.

Tenth-grade reading fell from 41.9% to 33.1%. Tenth-grade math rose from 16.9% to 18%.

The state lowered the scores needed to meet standards beginning with the spring 2025 tests. The 2025 and 2026 results can be compared with each other but not with earlier years.

## Growth

The report card also measures how much students' scores improved from one year to the next, compared with students across Illinois who started at similar levels.

The state average is 50\. A score above 50 means students improved more than similar students statewide, and a score below 50 means they improved less.

Streator High scored 50.2 in math, up from 47.3 the year before. It scored 47.2 in reading, down from 48.7.

## Attendance

At Streator High, 33.2% of students were chronically absent, meaning they missed 10% or more of the school year, excused or unexcused. Statewide, the rate was 23.5%.

The school's rate fell from 51.6% in 2021-22 to 27.7% in 2023-24, then rose to 32.4% in 2024-25 and 33.2% in 2025-26\. The statewide rate has fallen four years in a row.

The report card also tracks how many students transfer into or out of a school during the year.

At Streator High, 24.8% of students did, up from 13.2% the year before and 10% two years earlier. Statewide, the rate was 6.9%.

## Spending

Streator Township High School District 40 spent about $22,000 per student. Under the state's school funding formula, the district has 76.4% of the money the state says it needs to adequately educate its students.
