City Council Meeting Preview: The Microphone Is On—Use It

The next Streator City Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 4 at 6 p.m. at City Hall (204 S. Bloomington St.).
This is your regularly scheduled opportunity to voice your opinions, suggestions, frustrations, or even—gasp—praise for your local leaders. Whether you want to speak on taxes, tall grass, traffic, TIF districts, or just need someone to hear your conspiracy theory about the new gas station, this is the time and place.
The agenda includes votes on budget amendments, special use permits, and the possible reappointment of a few familiar faces. Public comment is always welcome near the start of the meeting, and you don't even have to sign up in advance. You just have to show up.
And here’s something worth remembering: our city officials aren’t shadowy elites or cartoon villains. They’re your neighbors. Most of them work day jobs, order breaded pork tenderloin sandwiches just like you, and are trying—imperfectly but earnestly—to make Streator better. You don’t have to agree with every decision they make—but getting to know them as real people can go a long way.
You don’t have to speak. Just being there builds community.
Facebook posts don’t change policy. But showing up in person? That just might.
