Editorial Standards
Here is how The Streator Standard works, so you know what you’re reading and what to expect from us.
News, opinion, and satire are labeled
Every story is filed under a section. News reports what happened. Opinion is our point of view, and it says so. Satire is written for laughs and carries a satire label at the top. If you’re not sure which you’re reading, the label at the top of the story tells you.
Where our information comes from
We rely on public records, meeting agendas and minutes, official announcements, our own reporting, and people who live here. When we use a photo or information from someone else, we credit them.
Bylines
Stories are published under “The Streator Standard.” The Standard is written by people who live in and around Streator. We publish as a group so the work can be judged on what it says.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we fix it and say so. Corrections are noted at the bottom of the story with the date. To report an error, email editor@thestreatorstandard.com.
Updates to older stories
Some stories, especially about arrests or charges, change after they’re published. If a case ends in dismissal, acquittal, or a reduced charge, let us know and we’ll add an update.
Tips and submissions
We welcome story ideas, letters, and guest columns. Send them to editor@thestreatorstandard.com. We read everything, but we can’t promise to publish every submission.
