Joy, Inclusion, and Community at Streator Unlimited’s Fun Day
An afternoon of music, laughter, and purpose at City Park

On July 1st, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Streator City Park will be the site of something more than just a summer party—it will be the backdrop for one of the city’s most heartfelt traditions: Streator Unlimited’s Fun Day. A celebration packed with live music, local food trucks, petting zoos, balloon animals, and enough dancing to make your FitBit cry for mercy, this annual event is more than just fun. It’s a living, joyful expression of a mission built on dignity, inclusion, and potential.
What Is Streator Unlimited?
For those who don’t know, Streator Unlimited, Inc. is one of our community’s most vital and compassionate institutions. It supports adults with disabilities in reaching their full potential through a range of services that include a day program, a sheltered workshop, community employment, and residential support through five group homes and Section 8-eligible apartments.
Founded on the belief that every person deserves the opportunity to live a meaningful and connected life, Streator Unlimited doesn’t just serve people with disabilities—it serves the community by demonstrating what it means to live with purpose, perseverance, and pride.
A Day That’s Bigger Than a Picnic
While Fun Day might sound like a cheerful mix of face painting, food trucks (shoutout to Dig Doug’s and Flo’s on Pulaski), and toe-tapping tunes from Ray’s Rockets, it’s also a window into something deeper. For many of the participants supported by Streator Unlimited, this is a rare moment to not just attend an event—but to be at the center of it.
And make no mistake: they are. From planning to participation, Fun Day is an event that celebrates the people served by SU as equals, leaders, and friends. It’s about showing up not just for them, but with them.
Why It Matters
In a town that’s seen its share of economic challenges and shifting priorities, events like this remind us of the good we already have. Streator Unlimited has quietly and consistently carried out some of the most important work happening in our city: empowering individuals who are too often overlooked, and building a culture of belonging one person at a time.
Too many cities try to reinvent themselves with glossy developments and outside investments. But real community—the kind that endures—is built in places like Streator Unlimited, and moments like Fun Day.
So bring your dancing shoes. Bring a chair. Bring your appetite. But most importantly, bring your heart. Because this isn’t just a party—it’s a glimpse of the city we all say we want to be.
And if we’re lucky, maybe we’ll start becoming it.
