Reel in the Fun at the Bluegill Rodeo!

Reel in the Fun at the Bluegill Rodeo!

If you've never seen a rodeo where the competitors have gills and the grand prize is a trophy shaped like bragging rights, you're in luck.

This Saturday, June 7th from 8–11 AM, head over to the Streator Lazy Acres Club for the annual Gene “Pudgee” Bednar Memorial Bluegill Rodeo—a name so rich in local legend, it practically smells like lake water and fried onions.

Kids 13 and under can cast their way to glory with trophies for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the “most fish caught” category. But fear not, even if your kid’s fishing strategy consists of yelling at the water, every child goes home a winner (and probably a little muddy).

Bait is provided by South End Bait & Tackle, proving once again that fishing is more fun when someone else deals with the worms. After the final cast, every young angler gets a hot dog, chips, and a drink, because nothing says “I almost caught a bluegill” like a celebratory lunch.

Oh, and fire trucks will be on-site too—because the only thing better than catching a fish is climbing on a shiny red engine and pretending you’re the chief.

Open to the public. Adults must accompany children, even if you’re just there to pretend you knew how to fish back in the day. Come for the competition, stay for the snacks, and leave with memories that smell slightly like pond water and ketchup.

🎣🐟🔥 See you on the banks, Streator.
