Resident Seeks Answers After Drainage Work Leaves Yard Damaged

Kenna King, a resident of the 900 block of South Vermillion Street, recently posted a concern on Facebook following a city drainage project that left her yard damaged. According to her post, heavy equipment and trucks involved in the project caused large holes and divots on her side of the street, making mowing hazardous. She noted that across the street, the disturbed areas had been smoothed out and covered with black dirt—but similar repairs were not made on her side.

Kenna’s question was simple: Who can she contact to find out if her yard will receive the same treatment as the opposite side? She described the current conditions as difficult to maintain and potentially unsafe for lawn care, especially with holes reportedly more than a foot deep.

This situation highlights a common issue following public infrastructure work—how and when restoration takes place. Residents with similar concerns can start by contacting the Streator Public Works Department, or reaching out to City Engineer Jeremy Palm or City Manager David Plyman for clarification.

At the very least, Kenna’s post serves as a reminder to check in on the status of post-project repairs—and to make sure no part of the street is overlooked in the process.
