Streator Cops 4 Kids Gearing Up for Another Season of Giving

Streator Cops 4 Kids Gearing Up for Another Season of Giving

Each holiday season in Streator, a small community miracle takes shape—fueled not by sleigh bells or snowfall, but by generosity, planning, and shopping carts stacked high at Runnings. The Streator Cops 4 Kids program is once again preparing to make the holidays brighter for local children.

Run by the Streator Police Department, the program focuses on more than just toys. Each year, it raises money to take 50 kids on a shopping trip for necessities like coats, clothes, and shoes, with a small budget left for something fun. Each child receives $200 worth of items, making this one of the area’s most impactful holiday programs.

The kids are selected with care—nominated by teachers, counselors, and case workers who know their situations best. That process ensures that donations go exactly where they’re needed.

This year, the program aims to raise $10,000 to support the 50 children participating in the Shop With a Cop event. In addition to that, last year’s toy drive brought gifts to more than 200 local children—another reminder of just how far this effort reaches.

Local businesses and residents play a huge role in making it all happen. A recent donation from Runnings Stores helped the team secure three overstuffed carts of toys and another cart full of coats for just over $220—an incredible boost to kick off the fundraising season.

The police department and volunteers fundraise throughout the year, and they continue to welcome sponsors who are willing to donate the full amount for a child—or any amount they can. The entire effort is community-driven and tax-deductible, making it easy for both individuals and businesses to get involved.

Donations of toys, coats, and funds are already being accepted, and the goal is clear: help as many kids as possible feel seen, supported, and celebrated this holiday season. Those interested in contributing can reach out to the Streator Police Department or connect with the program through its Facebook presence.

This is local giving at its best—neighbors helping neighbors, and a reminder that a little heart can go a long way.
