Streator’s Liberty Fest Parade Returns July 6
Streator’s biggest red-white-and-boom tradition is back: the Liberty Fest Parade will roll down Main Street on Sunday, July 6 at 12:00 PM, with this year’s theme calling for all things stars, stripes, and small-town charm:
“Small Town Americana.”
If you’ve got a classic car, a farm tractor, a dance team, or just a deep love of the 4th of July, you’re officially invited. Entry is free, and the goal, according to organizers, is a “fun-filled, lengthy parade”—which in Streator terms means pack a lawn chair, a bottle of water, and maybe a snack… or three.
Lineup starts at 10:30 AM at the Streator Train Depot on Illinois Street, and the route will head down Main Street, turn right on Park (Route 23), pass by City Park (where people will cheer you on while holding snow cones), then wrap around on Kent Street back to the depot.
All are welcome—businesses, community groups, marching bands, Shriners with tiny cars, you name it. Just pick your category: float, semi, car, truck, tractor, walking group, or “Other” (which sounds like a challenge, honestly). Prizes will be awarded to the top three entries, so bring your A-game and maybe a little glitter.
You’ll be asked if you plan to play music (to help space things out) or throw candy (throw it away from the tires, please—nobody wants a parade-ending injury over a Tootsie Roll).
If you’re running for office or bringing a political message, there’s a $50 entry fee—democracy may be free, but campaign floats aren’t. Checks can be mailed to:
Daniel Danko
207 W 9th Street
Streator, IL 61364
You’ll also be asked to keep things non-offensive and non-controversial, which seems fair, especially for a parade celebrating freedom with inflatable eagles and marching saxophones.
To sign up, visit the online form or email Daniel_Danko13@hotmail.com with questions.

In a world full of chaos, conflict, and algorithmic doomscrolling, there’s still nothing better than waving a flag and watching a guy dressed like Uncle Sam ride past on a lawnmower. That’s Small Town Americana, and that’s Streator.
