West Side Cafe Reopens with Early Crowd and Ribbon-Cutting Cheers
West Side Cafe is officially back in business. The beloved Streator diner reopened at 6 a.m. Monday under the new ownership of Ginger and Jeff Walter, and the early morning turnout didn’t disappoint. Customers were waiting right as the doors opened, returning to a favorite breakfast and lunch spot that had been closed for less than a year.
Located at 101 Armory Court in Westgate Plaza, the restaurant will operate from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Breakfast will be served until 10:30 a.m., followed by lunch until closing. Dine-in and carryout options are available. For more information, customers can call 815-822-9006 or follow the cafe on Facebook for specials, including a grand opening giveaway valued at $15.
Signature weekly specials include Meatloaf Mondays and Creamed Chicken over Biscuits on Thursdays.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony took place Monday morning in front of the cafe’s new window signage installed by Easton Tinting & Wraps. Participating in the ceremony were Karen Karpati, Chamber ambassador; Mayor Tara Bedei; owners Jeff and Ginger Walter; Derek Barichello, Chamber executive director; Lori Snell, Chamber vice president; and Judy Booze, Chamber ambassador.
Across the street, a trio of city workers cleaning up at Merriner Park paused to watch the ribbon cutting and applauded as the Walters marked the official opening.
