Against All Odds, Streator Walking Club Walks Again
They said it couldn’t be done. The radar looked suspicious, the clouds loomed large, and after last week’s soggy no-show, spirits were dampened. But on a recent evening in City Park, the Streator Walking Club defied the odds—and the weather—by successfully walking. Yes, walking. With the mayor, no less.
“Move with the Mayor,” the official name of the evening, went off without a hitch. No lightning, no cancellations, no cryptic Facebook updates asking, “Is this still happening?”—just sneakers hitting pavement, conversations among neighbors, and the occasional bird chirping in approval.
There were no medals. No grand speeches. No news crews. Just humans doing the most rebellious thing you can do in Streator these days: using the park in the way it was actually intended. Walking.
One participant remarked, “I came expecting another cancellation but figured I’d stretch my legs anyway. Next thing I know, we’re moving… with the mayor!”
The event was such a success that the Streator Walking Club would like to remind you: they walk every Tuesday evening. Same time. Same place. Rain permitting, of course—but if this week proved anything, it’s that a little water won’t stop a determined group of walkers.
So lace up, show up, and see what happens when a city decides to take one literal step toward a better future. The sidewalks are waiting.
