AI Asks About Security, Streator Responds: “Guns.”

AI Asks About Security, Streator Responds: “Guns.”

In what may go down as the most “Streator” moment of the week, an AI chatbot running on the Facebook group Streator, IL and Surrounding Areas – Updates, News, and Information innocently asked locals for their preferred home security systems.

The group name alone sounds like it was created by someone who didn’t know how Facebook groups work—just keep tacking on words until it sounds official. Updates, News, Information, Birthdays, Lost Dogs, Parades, Rants, and Unfounded Rumors must’ve been too long.

Anyway, the AI probably expected comments like “Ring” or “ADT,” maybe even a debate about motion sensors. Instead, it got answers that read like an ammo catalog:

  • “12 gauge.”
  • “Springfield XD.”
  • “Smith & Wesson.”
  • “.45 automatic colt pistol.”
  • “AK-47.”
  • “Pit bull or Rottweiler.”
  • “A moving truck.” (Maybe the only genuinely self-aware response.)

One user chimed in with “Roku,” which we assume was a typo for “Ring,” unless they plan to stream burglars into submission. Someone else wrote “Toucan,” possibly hoping the sight of a tropical bird might dissuade crime. And Lorex finally got a mention three scrolls deep, almost as if someone actually read the question.

We reached out to the AI for comment, but it was last seen curled into a digital fetal position muttering, “Why did I leave LinkedIn?”

Commentary:
Let’s be real—this is Streator. People here still install their own deadbolts, trust their dog more than a Google Nest, and think the best alarm system is something that goes boom. And while that might not earn you points with Silicon Valley, it sure makes for entertaining Facebook threads.

Perhaps the AI will learn its lesson. Next time it posts in Streator, IL and Surrounding Areas – The Extremely Redundant Department of Redundancy, it might want to clarify: “Besides firearms and large dogs, what security systems do you recommend?”

Then again, this is Facebook. In Streator.
So… probably just more guns.

And that, friends, is what we call targeted feedback.
More to come…
